Founded by John McCarthy, the firm offers personal, tailor-made executive search services for senior management on behalf of clients operating in the private banking, asset management, consumer goods, luxury goods, high-technology, start-ups and not-for-profit sectors.

Like the other members of Group Mercator, John McCarthy Associates works only on a retainer basis and limits its activities to a maximum of fifteen assignments per annum. It has conducted search assignments in Switzerland, across Western Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

John McCarthy, the Managing Director, has Irish and American dual nationality. A native of Connecticut, he graduated from Williams College in 1968. He also attended Institut Le Rosey (Rolle, Switzerland), Princeton University and the Middle East Center for Arab Studies in Shemlan, Lebanon.

John established his own firm in 1993, having begun his career in executive search in 1977 with Russell Reynolds Associates as a Managing Director in the London office, where he developed and then managed the firm‘s Middle East practice for eight years. In 1985, he opened RRA‘s Geneva office focusing on financial services in Switzerland.

He is Secretary of Project HOPE‘s European Advisory Board, a Trustee of International College in Lebanon, a Vice President of the Royal Naval Museum in Portsmouth, England, and a past President of the American International Club of Geneva.
